The young ladies of the Heart 2 Change project have been designing, decorating and doing business all for A Way Out.
Starting from scratch the group first hand drew their designs and from there their creations soon flourished into everything from t-shirts to bags to aprons.
Lucy Leaver from Design Hub Art Workshop has helped the girls from the start and has loved every minute!

THE DESIGNER charity jumble sale that got Vogue talking came to Middlesbrough this past weekend to raise money for local charity A Way Out.
The Dickens Inn on Southfield road played host to Rags and Muffins – a jumble sale that only sells high-end high street and designer goods at a miniscule price.
“Rags and Muffins is no ordinary jumble sale,” says A WAY OUT’s CEO Jessie Jacobs, “we got Teesside’s Who’s Who together and asked them to raid their wardrobes for designer rags.
“From Topshop Unique through to vintage goodies we sell clothes, jewellery and accessories to raise funds for the life changing work of our charity.”
As of time of writing and without trudging all the way down stairs to count I currently own 10 pairs of boots (ankle, shin, knee, thigh-high – all flat though may I add) – obsessed me? I THINK SO!
Now, I know for sure that I didn’t HAVE to add another two pairs to my already full at the brim shoe closet but when I came across a pair of boots that I couldn’t live without in Primark this week I knew ASAP that I would be adding another pair to my bursting boot collection.
Nellie? Bump? Dumbo? Elmer? The Elephant Man?
Who is your favourite elephant? Well forget all about Bump and his adorable little theme song and instead make sure your new number one elephant is my all kinds of amazing bag.
There I was in a certain charity shop – one of my top 3 so I’m not telling you which one – walking towards the till with an albeit simple but pretty River Island dress with my last remaining fiver of the week (I was on EMA rations.) I had a quick peek over the shoes and bags just in case anything caught my eye and GOLLY GOSH this bag certainly did!
I threw the polkadot RI dress back on the rail and immediately snapped up the beautiful bag in my hungry claws falling more and more in love with it every second I held it.
However, this is where I will admit a shameful sin without having to even go into a confessional booth. The bag had two prices tags on it for some reason (£4.99 and £6.99) and like I said I only had £5 left for the rest of the WHOLE week (I shouldn’t have bought that darn pasty, cornflake cake and cupcake from Greggs ten minutes earlier.)
So the sneaky bitch that I am I ripped the £7 tag off the bag and went to the till where I was charged the fiver to much humming and “eee this is cheap” from the old lady behind which I will admit made me feel guilty as hell but HEY I had fallen in love with my extraordinary elephant bag.
Maybe next time I pop in I will throw some coins in the money box but errrmmmm I will probs spend it on chips from the takeaway next door.
One drizzly Sunday morning myself and the Bex-meister managed to somehow get ourselves to Newcastle and this time we didn’t end up nearly getting ran over on the Tyne Tees bridge.
The reason why we pulled ourselves out of bed at the ungodly hour of 7:30? (well 7:30 for me, she didn’t wake up till half 8 and we were meeting at 9! – IKR, everybody go tut at her) – was to go too my idea of Heaven – an AFFORDABLE vintage fair.
Once we got in to Northumbria Uni’s SU my head was all over the place – there were far too many sparkling sequins, fantasys furs and ditsy daisys for my eyes to take in! When I die – hopefully before I get old – and get sent up to the pearly gates I hope God will let me shop in this wonderful place with an unlimited amount of money and have Drew McIntyre walking behind feeding me cupcakes for the rest of eternity.

After an extra long hiatus in which I couldn’t get myself over to the wondrous charity shop-filled high street (and also widest incase you didn’t know) of Stockton-on-Tees, I at long last took my rip-off white converse back into one of my favourite places in the world with a belly full of Burger King and a pocketful of potential dream buys.
I ran off to my absolute numero uno CS as it likes to close at random times every time I go there and you never know whether it’s going to be open for another 2 hours or closed 40 minutes ago. Thankfully it was still open, I rummaged through the beyond messy rails (they really need to sort that shop out) and my happiness soon turned to disappointment when I couldn’t find anything I liked as I didn’t fancy owning a deflated puffa jacket or a tan 3/4 length leather coat. My 5000 word essay on whether ‘the fashion blogopshere has taken over from the established fashion magazines’ has now been handed in so now I’m back to my usual bloggin-ness. YEY!
So yesterday off I popped to Primark for the first time since Christmas Eve!! – I know right, whats that all about? – and because I had left it for eternity and a day my favourite shop had plenty of cheap buys that I HAD to have, rather then having nothing like it usually has when I go in every day.
One thing I had noticed about Primark though is the fact that all their clothes have gone mega downhill ATM, there wasn’t anything clothes-wise that I liked let alone wanted. Perhaps, it’s the lull of post-Christmas fashion and that their Spring/Summer collections haven’t came through yet but really who the hell would wear a polyester khaki pair of flares? SORT IT OUT! Sorry about my little leave of absence but snow + essay + no money = one sad little Chantal. However, as Take That would say I’m (btw is anybody else pissed off about Mark Owen being downgraded now that the glorified druggie who is Robbie Williams is back?) back for gooooodddd.
Now, I haven’t had a BIG shopping trip in ages and yes, I am extremely depressed about it but with a few random walks through town to get to the bus station or to buy important things like food and knitting needles I have managed to scour out a few barginous buys.
First up, its every girls best friend – no not diamonds but Primark of course. Unfortunately, everybodys favourite shop hasn’t pleased me very much over the last couple of months so I wasn’t expecting to come across anything amazing while wondering aimlessly through. Continue reading
With uni starting up again this week I thought I should spend my last totally free weekend going on an absolute shopping binge. Off I popped into town with my trusty shopping list that I wrote in shorthand for some unknown reason so naturally I went into a bit of a crazed frenzy in Primark trying to read back what F and R followed by a S T F meant.
After a few minutes standing there in the middle of everybodys way I realised it meant fur stuff – i’m great with words ain’t I? I scurried off to the back of the store where all the jems are hidden in order to find some furry items to place upon my head.
