Gâteau de carotte.

In today’s cake baking tutorial I will try and teach you how to turn these random but rather interesting ingredients (cinnamon does something for me)….

Into the most yummy, scrummy and lets pretend healthy carrot cake…

Ingredients

* 175g muscovado sugar
* 175ml sunflower oil
* 3 large eggs
* 3 carrots (grated)
* Zest of 1 large orange (grated)
* 175g self-raising flour
* 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
* 3 tsp ground cinnamon
* 1 tsp grated nutmeg

First thing first, get all the boring usual stuff out the way – preheat the oven to gas mark 4 and grease your loaf tin with literally a ton of margarine so your cake doesn’t get stuck inside (I have now gave up on using greaseproof paper as it only ruins my life.)

Get your adult helper – aka Daddy – to grate all those carrots for you as its a hard job for delicate girls like us and those sharp edges may cause damage to our beautiful skin and nails!

Dad, seriously, you need to start applying some moisturizer!

Add the muscovado sugar (pop a surgeons mask on as the smell of all that sugar is overwhelming), oil and eggs into a big-ass bowl and give it a good ol’ mix mix mix…

Then gently stir in the carrots and orange rind with an old school wooden spoon and hopefully it should start to look like this…

In a separate bowl mix together the flour, bicarb, the sexy cinnamon and the random little nutmeg…

Awww, cute!

Sift the whole flour caboodle into your sugar, carrot and whatnot mix, get the electric whisk and your muscles out and blend all those ingredients together until your mixture is soft and almost runny…

Pour the liquid mess into your buttered up loaf tin (make sure to not pour it all over the work top and have to waste 10 minutes cleaning it all up like yours truly did) and pop it into the oven for around 45 minutes, until it feels firm and springy when you press it in the centre.

Then TA-DA you will end up with this delicious cake (which btw only gets yummier the longer you leave it so don’t eat it all within the 5 minutes it comes out the oven)…

Add plenty of whipped cream and a huge cuppa for that utter teatime perfection.
